Account and data deletion — Recipe Vault

This page covers two things: deleting your whole account, and deleting some of your data while keeping the account. Both are available inside the app and by email, including after you have uninstalled the app.

Option A: delete your account and all of your data

In the app, immediately:

• Open the app
• Go to Settings
• Choose Delete Account and confirm

Deletion happens straight away and cannot be undone.

By email, if you no longer have access to the app:

Send a message to office@meshistern.com containing:

• Subject: Recipe Vault account deletion
• How you signed in: Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google
• The address linked to the account. If you used Apple and hid your email, this is the address ending in privaterelay.appleid.com that Apple created for us
• The display name in your profile, if you set one

To protect you we have to confirm the request came from the account owner. The simplest proof is sending the email from the address linked to the account. If we cannot verify it, we will ask for one more detail before deleting anything.

Option B: delete data without closing the account

In the app, immediately:

• A single recipe: open it, open the menu, choose Delete
• Several recipes: in the vault, use multi-select and then Delete
• A recipe photo: edit the recipe and remove the image
• Shopping list: clear the list or remove individual items
• A folder: delete the folder; the recipes inside stay in your vault

By email: write to office@meshistern.com with the same identifying details as above, and say which data to delete. For example: all photos, all shopping lists, every recipe imported from a link, or one named recipe.

How long it takes

• We acknowledge a request within two business days
• Deletion is completed within 30 days at the latest after we verify your identity, and usually much sooner
• We send you a confirmation as soon as it is done

What is deleted and what is kept

Permanently deleted when an account is deleted:

• Every recipe, including ingredients, steps, notes and tags
• Every image you uploaded or saved from a link, removed from our object storage
• Folders you created
• Shopping lists and their items
• Your user profile, including your display name
• The authentication user itself, so the account can no longer be signed into

Never held in the first place:

• We do not have your password. Apple and Google authenticate you, not us
• If you used Apple with Hide My Email, we never had your real address
• The app takes no payments, so we hold no payment details
• We do not sell data or pass it to advertisers

Kept briefly, and why:

• Infrastructure backups and technical logs at our hosting providers, which roll over and are erased automatically within 30 days. These are operational copies and are not reachable as content in the app
• The email thread of the request itself, kept for up to 12 months so we can show the request was handled
• If you downloaded an export file or a cookbook to your own device, that copy stays with you and we cannot delete it
